DIRECTOR of rugby Alan Solomons hailed the impact of Dorian Jones and Michael Dowsett in Worcester Warriors’ 27-13 comeback triumph over Newcastle Falcons.

When the half-back pairing came on with just 20 minutes left Warriors were struggling to break Falcons down as they trailed 13-6.

But fly-half Jones and scrum-half Dowsett helped spark Worcester into action as they scored 21 unanswered points.

David Denton struck twice and Nick Schonert went over for the other try to secure a valuable Aviva Premiership victory.

Jones, making his debut for the side after replacing Jamie Shillcock on 58 minutes, also converted all three tries to the delight of Solomons.

“I thought both the nine and 10 coming on had a really positive impact on the game,” Solomons said.

“That’s taking nothing away from Jonny (Arr) or Shilly who are both good players, but I thought they made a difference.

“Dorian is a magnificent goal-kicker, that’s for sure.”

Warriors started well with Chris Pennell firing home a long-range penalty and the full-back notched another on 37 minutes.

But they came either side of two penalties from Toby Flood before Newcastle crossed the whitewash just before the break.

Wing Vereniki Goneva charged in under the posts and Flood added the extras to give Falcons a seven-point advantage at half-time.

But Solomons likened his team’s performance to a cricket innings and he felt they would eventually pull away.

“At half-time the big thing we spoke about was about maintaining the intensity that we had in that first half despite conceding that try,” Solomons said.

“We have spoken about building an innings.

“It’s like in cricket when the opening batsman goes and builds the innings and then the fourth, fifth and sixth batsmen make the runs. It is the same in rugby.

“If you can keep at it you will reap the rewards in the back 20 minutes.”

Along with Dowsett and Jones, Solomons was also impressed by the contribution of second-half replacements Andrew Kitchener and Marco Mama.

“There was a terrific impact from the bench,” Solomons said.

“Everybody who came on made a difference, with Kitch and Marco up front and I thought the half-backs did really well."

Solomons added: “Full marks to all the players who played and those who stepped up and took leadership roles.

“It would be very difficult to name any individual as I thought it was a real team performance and everyone did themselves proud in the game.”
