IT has been a tough campaign so far for Worcestershire in the Royal London One-Day Cup but we can still reach the quarter-finals.

We have four games left and have to try to win all of them.

If we win three, we’ve probably got a chance of going through in that top four.

However, with only having won the one game to date, it’s important we get a victory today against Lancashire at New Road (10.30am) to keep this campaign alive.

Lancashire are a very good side but they’ve struggled in this competition too. It seems teams who have done well in Twenty20 are struggling a little with the 50-over game.

Hampshire and Surrey are struggling and Lancashire lost the first three games so it’s a strange change in fortunes for a lot of us.

It was a really decent T20 campaign but in the 50-over competition we haven’t been as consistent with the bat.

We had a wash-out against Derbyshire and, although it was a good result at Northamptonshire, we were well beaten by Essex when we didn’t get enough runs.

It was a difficult day against Yorkshire too. We probably got it wrong with the toss.

It was the pitch used against Gloucestershire and it was dry. We thought it would spin a lot later on, which is why we batted first, but instead it seamed around a lot.

We got through the powerplay reasonably well at 40-1, then Tim Bresnan bowled a double-wicket maiden and Tom Kohler-Cadmore was out shortly after that as well.

All of a sudden, we were four down. It was difficult for the guys coming in under pressure.

We were well short with the bat, we fought pretty hard with the ball but didn’t have enough runs to defend.

I got out at a bad time when we’d just lost a few wickets and decisions didn’t go our way with a couple of lbw appeals that shouldn’t have been given out.

It was one of those days when nothing really went right for us and unfortunately we were on the wrong end of a bit of a hiding.

Fifty overs is a long time compared to 20 overs. The two new balls make a difference and, starting at 10.30am, it seams around a lot because there’s still plenty of moisture in the pitch early on.

But, as a county cricketer, you’ve got to be able to adapt, like we have from T20 to four-day cricket.

New Road hosts England Lions against Sri Lanka ‘A’ and New Zealand ‘A’ on Monday and Tuesday, which gives fans a good opportunity to see some top-quality cricket.

There are some explosive batsmen in the England side in James Vincent, Jason Roy, Alex Hales and James Taylor, while Colin Munro will play for New Zealand.
