WORCESTERSHIRE'S 2016 overseas players Mitchell Santner and Matt Henry played key roles with the bat to rescue New Zealand and set up a 70-run victory over Pakistan in the opening ODI in Wellington.

Santner and Henry both achieved their highest ODI scores as the Black Caps recovered from being 99-6 to post 280-8 in their 50 overs.

Spinner Santner came to the wicket at the fall of the sixth wicket and he and Henry Nicholls began the recovery with a stand of 79 in 16 overs.

Santner, who will be Worcestershire's overseas player in the NatWest T20 Blast, made 48 off 63 balls before he top edged Mohammad Irfan and was caught off a skier by keeper Sarfraz Ahmed.

Nicholls departed for a fine 82 at 203-8 in the 45th over but then Henry and former New Road paceman Mitchell McClenaghan took toll of the Pakistan attack.

Henry, who will with Worcestershire from early April until late June, smote 48 off 30 balls with four sixes and four fours.

He added 73 off just 33 balls with McClenaghan who made 31 not out off 18 balls before having to retire hurt just before the end of the innings after being struck on the head by a Anwar Ali bouncer.

McClenaghan was unable to bowl but New Zealand still dismissed Pakistan for 210 in 46 overs with Henry, who took the new ball, finishing with 0-43 in eight overs and Santner 1-36 in eight overs.

Trent Boult (4-40) and Grant Elliott (3-43) did most of the damage.
