WORCESTERSHIRE batsman Tom Fell has been given the all-clear against cancer.

The 22-year-old had surgery in early October after being diagnosed with testicular cancer at the end of last season.

He was cleared to go to Australia to play grade cricket in Perth.

But a small area of cancer in his lymph nodes was detected in a CT scan in March and Fell has needed three bouts of chemotherapy.

Fell said: “It was an unbelievable feeling to finally get the all-clear yesterday.

“Thank you to everyone for the incredible support over the past few months.”

Worcestershire skipper Daryl Mitchell said the whole squad was delighted with the news about Fell and hoped the batsman would soon be challenging for a first-team place.

“It has been a difficult for time for Felly but he has been positive throughout and the whole squad are absolutely thrilled with the news,” said Mitchell.

“When something like this happens to someone so young and fit as Felly you stop thinking about cricket because it puts life into perspective.”

Fell scored 1,084 runs, including three centuries, at an average of 41.69 for Worcestershire in last summer's County Championship Division One.

Mitchell said: “This will be like a new player coming back into the squad because he had such a fantastic season last summer and will definitely add depth to our batting.

“He will be back into training now and involved firstly with the second team and trying to lose the belly he’s got. Hopefully, he will soon get back to match fitness."

He added: “We had Moeen Ali for three Championship matches but he’s now away with the England squad and Felly will soon come into contention for playing all three forms of the game.”
