WORCESTERSHIRE Rapids will give fitness tests to skipper Daryl Mitchell and paceman Matt Henry ahead of tomorrow’s Royal London One-Day Cup clash with Leicestershire Foxes at New Road (11am).

Mitchell and Henry have been named in a 13-man squad for the 50-over encounter by director of cricket Steve Rhodes.

Opener Mitchell picked up a side strain in the nets and missed last Friday’s NatWest T20 Blast win over Northamptonshire and Sunday’s Royal London One-Day Cup success at Durham.

Henry was ruled out of the same two games plus the one-day cup win at Yorkshire with a similar sort of injury.

Rhodes said: “Mitch and Matt are in the squad, they will both be fitness tested and hopefully they will come through that.”

Vice-captain Joe Leach has captained the side for the past two matches in his first taste of leading the side at senior level.

Rapids look for a fourth successive win in white-ball cricket.

They are top of the North Group in the T20 and also well placed in the one-day cup with two wins from three matches.

Rhodes said: “The three consecutive wins have been a really special effort from the boys. They have all worked hard for those victories.

“My job is to pick them up when things aren’t so good and also to try to make sure their feet are firmly on the ground because Leicestershire will come here full of confidence and desire to win.

“We’ve no right to win, we’ve got to earn it, work hard and try to beat them fair and square and keep the winning run going.

“I don’t get carried away with tables – I never have done.

“I know in cricket, as in any sport, if you win the game you are about to play, then the tables take care of themselves.”
