TWO former Worcestershire CCC overseas players have been in the headlines.

Ex-Indian paceman Zaheer Khan has become an honorary life member of the MCC after being elected by the club.

Zaheer spent the entire 2006 campaign at New Road and finished with a haul of 78 County Championship wickets including five in an innings on five occasions.

It was his success with Worcestershire which led to his recall with India - a fact Zaheer has acknowledged himself - as the policy of director of cricket Steve Rhodes signing a 'hungry' player came to fruition.

Meanwhile, Worcestershire's main 2013 overseas signing, Thilan Samaraweera, has been appointed Bangladesh's batting consultant ahead of the forthcoming tour by England.

Samaraweera has just completed a similar stint with Australia ahead of their visit to his native Sri Lanka.

He scored 702 Championship runs at an average of 39.00 three years ago but earned praise from the county's younger players for passing on invaluable experience.
