THE Worcestershire squad have arrived back in England after a successful 11-day training camp in Abu Dhabi.

The coaches and players were greeted by snow on their return from an invaluable exercise as part of the build-up to the new season in the UAE.

Worcestershire were able to undertake several days of warm-weather training in addition to playing three days cricket against a UAE XI and Cambridge University.

All the batsmen and bowlers were able to spend either time in the middle or get some overs under their belt.

Now the attention turns to warm-up games for the new campaign in English conditions.

The County face Somerset on Thursday and Friday in a game switched from Taunton Vale to the main County Ground in Taunton.

One team will bat 60 overs on the opening day and the other team the final 30 overs – a process that will be reversed on the second day.

The onus will switch to one-day cricket on Monday, March 26, with Worcestershire facing Gloucestershire in a 50-over contest at Bristol.

Then on the following Tuesday and Wednesday the two sides will contest a two-day game.

Meanwhile, Ross Whiteley heads back to Blackfinch New Road after his side Multan Sultans failed to qualify for the knockout stages of the Pakistan Super League.

The County all-rounder and his team-mates needed rivals Peshawar Zalmi to slip up in one of their final two games to go through to the last four.

But those hopes were dashed when Peshawar chased down a 173 target in their final group game against Lahore Qalandars.

They tied up a seven-wicket win off the final ball.

Whiteley and Sultans looked certainties to go through after collecting nine points from their opening six games from four wins and a no result.

But a sequence of four successive defeats left their destiny out of their own hands and they were made to pay.

The exit brings an end to Whiteley’s winter programme of cricket around the world via the Bangladesh Premier League, the inaugural T10 competition in Sharjah and the PSL.
