WORCESTERSHIRE have boosted their injury-hit bowling ranks with the signing of Nottinghamshire’s left-arm pace bowler Luke Wood.

Sheffield-born Wood, 22, joins on a 28-day loan and has 25 first-class matches under his belt with 66 wickets at an average of 32.62 with a best of 5-40.

The Notts academy product has scored 809 first-class runs at an average of 26.96 including a century against Sussex in 2015.

Wood penned a new contract at Trent Bridge last winter until the end of the 2019 season and played in their first two County Championship Division Two matches of the campaign.

He impressed against Worcestershire's seconds in a Championship game at Stourbridge last month with 5-44.

Wood was part of the England under 19 squad at the 2014 ICC World Cup alongside Worcestershire's Joe Clarke and Ed Barnard.

He bolsters the County ranks with skipper Joe Leach (back) out for the rest of the season and fellow seamer Josh Tongue (foot) out until mid-August.

Worcestershire head coach Kevin Sharp said: “As people will be aware, we have had one or two injuries to our bowlers and were keen to bolster the squad.

“Luke has some experience under his belt now and he will give us that bit more experience.

“Notts are keen for him to play some more first-team cricket and we are delighted to do a deal to have the services of Luke for this 28-day period.”

The County open their Vitality Blast T20 campaign at Lancashire Lightning on Thursday (6.30pm).
