WORCESTERSHIRE have made a second signing in 48 hours in experienced paceman Andy Carter.

The 29-year-old has joined for a six-week period and is available for all cricket including the Vitality Blast and County Championship.

Carter has impressed during a trial period with the seconds.

He retired from first-class cricket at the end of the 2016 season after a spell with Hampshire and previously played for Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.

But Carter then returned to play for Northamptonshire when they visited Worcestershire in the Championship at the start of last season and impressed with a three-wicket burst with the new ball.

He has also shown his quality at Blackfinch New Road and is included in the squad for tonight’s opening Vitality Blast match with Lancashire Lightning at Emirates Old Trafford (6.30pm).

Carter's signing follows the loan capture of Nottinghamshire left-armer Luke Wood for a month.

Despite several injury setbacks, Carter, who played for Lincolnshire during the early part of this season, has taken 108 wickets in 36 first-class matches at 29.62, 31 List A wickets from 23 games at 25.77 and 36 T20 wickets from 32 games at 24.05.

County head coach Kevin Sharp said: “He has impressed in the seconds and is keen to continue his career. In light of the fact we wanted to strengthen the squad, Andy is joining us.

“He has got plenty of experience to call upon and he will be with us at Old Trafford.”
