HAVING received huge acclaim for its production of Les Miserables last year the Malvern Theatres Young Company has this time turned its attention to another spectacular stage show.
Later this month they will be performing Jesus Chris Superstar at the Forum Theatre from August 19 –23 and if they hit the same heights as last year they can expect plenty more accolades to be heading their way.
This talented company of young performers – aged between 14 and 21 - received standing ovations last year for their production of the Les Miserables Schools Edition and this year’s show promises just as many thrills and outstanding musical performances.
Jesus Christ Superstar is based on the story of the last seven days of Jesus of Nazareth leading up to his crucifixion and contains a number of well-known and much loved rock- flavoured musical numbers written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. These include Superstar, Heaven on their Minds and I Don’t Know How to Love Him.
A spokesman for the Young Company said it was also proud to announce that Andy Reiss, of the acclaimed Beyond the Barricade Company, will return to direct. Andy’s performance and directing credits have seen him work extensively both here in the UK and internationally with productions including Les Miserables, Evita and Chess.
An amateur production by arrangement with The Really Useful Group, it’s once again anticipated that demand for tickets will be high to support this talented young company of performers and enjoy this incredible ground-breaking musical.
