FORMER football manager Ron Atkinson has been evicted from the Celebrity Big Brother house.

The Barnt Green resident was given his marching orders on Friday night, (August 30) after losing a public vote against fellow contestants Louie Spence and Courtney Stodden.

On hearing the news the 74-year-old, who managed Manchester United, Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion, seemed delighted.

After saying goodbye to fellow contestants on the Channel 5 reality show Mr Atkinson, better known as Big Ron, was in such a rush to exit that he fell over stairs leading up to the front door.

Speaking to host Emma Willis, following his eviction, he said: "I was quite pleased to come out now.

“I think I've done my time."

He also said the boredom was one of the hardest things to cope with in the house.

His stay was not without controversy. After contestant Danielle Marr placed a jumper over her head, Mr Atkinson asked if she was “carrying a bomb wearing that towel” – a remark for which he was given a formal warning.

Before his appearance in the show Mr Atkinson had only made occasional media appearances since 2004, when he was forced to resign as a football pundit after making a racist comment that was broadcast around the world.

Mr Atkinson was the second celebrity to be evicted from the house. He lasted only 10 days, but has reportedly been paid £100,000 for his appearance.
