PROPRIETORS of a Lickey Hills Care Home have successfully defended compensation claims by a former housekeeper who alleged bullying and harassment caused her to resign.

Birmingham Employment Tribunal has found in favour of Craegmoor Health Care Co Ltd, which runs the Lickey Hills Care Home, in Warrens Lane, after Mrs Christine McCoy made allegations against them.

She sought compensation against her former employers for disability discrimination as well as constructive unfair dismissal after alleging the home did not make suitable adjustments to help her carry out her work.

Mrs McCoy, who has a physical disability, alleged she could not work the floors and that she was pushed from pillar to post.

She also alleged she was checked on by management, faced derogatory comments by a manager, was made to look bad in front of her colleagues, and complained of bullying and harassment.

The respondents denied the allegations and said they had done all they could to help her.

The firm’s legal representative, Miss Catherine Souter, said Mrs McCoy failed to get on well with a manager and that there had been a personality dispute.

Miss Souter denied Mrs McCoy had been pushed from pillar to post and asked what Mrs McCoy had been capable of doing.

Tribunal judge, Mr David Battersby, said Mrs McCoy’s physical disability had been accepted at a previous hearing but that he had found in favour of the respondents at the latest hearing.

He said that, as a result, her compensation claims had been rejected.

The home looks after people with dementia physical disability and the infirm.
