A BROMSGROVE charity has received a generous donation from a charity garden scheme.
Four garden owners in Bromsgrove have donated £500 to the Basement Project after opening their gardens as part of the National Gardens Scheme, (NGS).
The scheme opens popular and interesting gardens nationally, to raise money for charity.
Alan Nokes, who owns one of the gardens with wife Lynn, said: “Most of the money we raise by opening our gardens goes to health related and nursing charities like Marie Curie, Macmillan’s Nurses and Help the Hospices.
"We are allowed to donate money raised from the sale of our refreshments to a local charity of our choice, and this year that charity is the Basement in Bromsgrove.”
The charity provides practical and emotional support for youngsters aged between 16 and 25-years-old, who are homeless or facing homelessness.
Jackie Hooper, from the Basement project, said: “This is a very generous donation and it will help us cover the general overheads of the Basement project which are not paid for by any local authority grants and which we have to fund from other sources, so all donations to cover these costs are of great value to us.
"We are also trying to get any monies collected for us 'match funded' which hopefully will double this donation to £1,000.”
