BROMSGROVE'S MP had received a top accolade at a prestigious awards ceremony held in Droitwich.

The third annual British Muslim Awards took place at the Chateau Impney Hotel in Droitwich on January 27.

The awards recognise a wide range of achievements across various aspects of society including business, charity, sport, arts and culture. They were established to celebrate the significant role British Muslims have in society.

At the event Bromsgrove's MP Sajid Javid, the Secretary of State for Culture Media and Sport, was named Politician of the Year.

The category recognises individuals who have broken down political barriers and are constantly striving to implement change, for the good of society.

Irfan Younis, CEO for the event organisers, said: "There are some truly inspirational individuals, businesses and organisations in all of the categories, and we would like to congratulate all of the finalists and winners who continuously thrive to excel, making worthy contenders."

As well as recognising the achievements of British Muslims the event raised £1,500 for The Well Foundation, which aims to raise money to build wells, install hand pumps and establish health and sanitation programs around the world.
