A NEW retro cafe in Rubery has celebrated its launch with a fun day full of vintage cars, rock and roll and some tasty treats.

Polly Put the Kettle On launched to a packed crowd, some of whom dressed up in their best 1940s outfits for the occasion.

Owner Susan O’Leary, said: “We were full all day, people were struggling to get a seat. Everybody enjoyed themselves, and it went really well.”

Susan comes from a baking background, even baking a 40th birthday cake for Prince Charles when she launched her first business through the Prince’s Trust, but she’s glad to be working directly with her customers now.

She added: “It’s nice having that public contact where you can chat with the customers face to face.”

This new venture on New Road in Rubery is open Monday to Saturday, and Susan hopes to expand events at the cafe with themed evenings and vintage clothing events.
