A MULTI-million pound project to create a one stop hub of council services in Bromsgrove is due to completed by August, following a delay.

The work involves converting the former Parkside School in Stourbridge Road into a one-stop shop of council services including a new library, register office, Job Centre Plus, council offices, district council chamber, customer service centre and community hall.

It will be home to district council and county council employees.

There will also be rooms available to book for private functions.

The former school is a listed building and some of the repairs, discovered by developers Thomas Vale, will take a few weeks longer than expected.

The project is now due to be completed in August, with staff moving in due to take place that month and in September.

District councillor Rita Dent, whose portfolio covers the town centre, said: “This ground-breaking joint project is an innovative use of space in a beautiful building and we want to make sure it is completed to a high standard.

“It forms an important part of this council’s economic regeneration project to create a better Bromsgrove and will deliver better services, locally, and save taxpayers money.”

Worcestershire County Councillor for Bromsgrove Central Anthony Blagg, added: "The hub will not only put all these under one roof, making it easier for our customers to access, but makes a sustainable use of an important building in Bromsgrove, bringing more people to the town centre."

The redevelopment scheme has cost £6.9 million overall, that has been equally split between the county and district council.
