BROMSGROVE Dental Clinic is offering free mouth cancer examinations to the public throughout November.

The Highfield Road-based clinic wants to give back to its local community and make everyone in the area aware of mouth cancer and the importance or regular check ups in protecting against the life-threatening disease.

The event is part of Mouth Cancer Action Month, organised by the British Dental Health Foundation, which aims to reduce the amount of lives lost to mouth cancer by ensuring we are all aware of the symptoms and causes of the disease.

Nazia Alyas from the Bromsgrove Dental Clinic said of the initiative: “Mouth cancer does not have the public awareness that other forms of cancer does yet shockingly claims more lives every year than testicular and cervical cancer combined, we need to change this.

“Through our initiative we want to spread local public awareness of mouth cancer, its causes, the signs and symptoms and the role your dentist can play in helping to catch the disease early enough to fight against it.

“Simply register with the clinic to receive your free examination which will last approximately 15 minute and checks the whole mouth including the cheeks, lips, tongue and gums.

"Enjoy our newly refurbished waiting room and help yourself to coffee tea or hot chocolate too.”

British Dental Health Foundation's chief executive, Dr Nigel Carter OBE, added: “We are thankful for the support of the Bromsgrove Dental Clinic.

"It’s really important to get checked out as early detection of mouth cancer can drastically improve chances of survival from 50 to 90 per cent."
