AMBULANCE, police, and fire crews from Bromsgrove and Redditch were called out on Tuesday night to a lorry fire on the M42.
The HGV is reported to have caught fire as it approached the slip road on the eastbound carriageway of the M42 motorway close to junction 2, coming to a stop on the slip road to the Hopwood services.
Fire engines from Redditch and Bromsgrove were called to the scene at 11.15pm on Tuesday, January 12 and they used breathing apparatus, and hose reel and foam to put out the fire.
An ambulance and a paramedic officer arrived to discover the driver of the lorry had managed to leave his vehicle. He was uninjured, and wasn’t suffering from smoke inhalation, but he was taken to the Alex Hospital in Redditch as a precaution.
Highways England also attended the scene, closing the slip road while firefighters put out the fire and cleared the vehicle, before reopening one of the lanes to allow traffic through from 12.51am.
The slip road was fully reopened from 4.38am once the road surface had been checked for any damage.
