IT'S FULL steam ahead as work continues to complete Bromsgrove's new train station.

The date for the hub to open is likely to be known in about two weeks' time, with the launch now expected later in the spring.

The shell of the building, footbridge and car parks are now largely complete and the next phase - during April - is to fit it out with the ticket desk, ticket machines and equipment for staff who work there.

The project is part of a £100 million plan by Worcestershire County Council, Centro and Network Rail to provide better facilities and services to North Worcestershire.

The plans to replace the old Bromsgrove station include four longer platforms and a 350-space car park, as well as a bus interchange.

Rachel Groves, spokesman for Network Rail, said: "The station build is going very well.

"We are confident the new station is on track for opening later this spring."

Discussions are taking place with the Office of Rail and Road, which regulates the rail network, to make sure that the station is safe, with acceptable safety systems in place, before the new station opens.

Network Rail has apologised for any inconvenience the work may cause and encouraged residents with any questions to call their 24-hour hotline on 03457 114141 or visit networkrail.co.uk.
