BROMSGROVE's beloved Greyhound pub called last orders for the final time last night, after their electricity metre was confiscated by bailiffs.

Landlady of the Rock Hill pub Elizabeth Abbott said she "didn't have any choice" but to close since falling into debt with the electric company, who took allegedly took her metre despite her setting up a payment plan to pay it off.

Mrs Abbott said: "We haven't been busy since I took over the pub last July - it hasn't really taken off. We were told that we would be making £7,000 per week easily, but we've never gone above three.

"We got into further and further debt and received a court summons for the electricity, but I phoned up and explained and set up a payment plan. I even paid off a lump sum."

According to Mrs Abbott, bailiffs removed the metre on Monday but the pub has been open regardless of it having no electricity.

Mrs Abbotts parents, aged 69 and 72, are currently living above The Greyhound pub - again without any electricity.

Mrs Abbott added: "It's heartbreaking. We have a lovely bunch of regulars who are absolutely beautiful people. You could say I love them all to bits - I'd never heard that expression until I moved to Bromsgrove."

The Rock Hill pub sold beer at £1 per pint on it's closing night, despite it getting closer to room-temperature as the evening went on.
