DELAYS are expected between Redditch railway station and Birmingham after a man was hit and killed by a train.

Emergency services attended the incident at Selly Oak station on the Redditch to Lichfield Trent Valley line at around 2pm.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “When ambulance staff arrived they found a pedestrian, a man, who had been involved in a collision with a train.

"The man suffered multiple injuries and was in cardiac arrest.

"Ambulance crews and medics worked quickly as a team to administer advanced life support but sadly, despite their best efforts, nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead on scene.”

A British Transport Police spokesman added: "A person has been pronounced dead at the scene, we’re now working to identify them and inform their next of kin.

"Incident is not being treated as suspicious."

The line - which passes through Alvechurch, Barnt Green and Longbridge - was closed before re-opening at 3.30pm.

Trains may be revised, cancelled or delayed by up to 45 minutes.

A West Midlands Railway spokesman said: "Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Redditch and Lichfield Trent Valley all lines are disrupted.
