FOLK lovers will be in for a treat in the coming weeks with a host of top acts playing in Catshill.

Bromsgrove Folk Club, which now meets at Catshill Workmen's Club, in Meadow Road, has Steve Turner at the venue on Thursday, August 9.

Steve was ever present on the folk scene in the 60s and 70s and widened his audience potential when he turned professional in 1979. Some 13 years later he gave up the road and turned his attentions to a thriving violin retailing business and his music more towards classical outlets.

But now he's back in the folk fold. Singing and concertina playing has been a tradition in Steve's family since the 19th century. Musically residents can expect anything from traditional through Ry Cooder, a bit of Handel and even the odd banjo tune.

The autumn brings some great acts to Bromsgrove with Kirsty McGee and Mat Martin making a return visit on September 13.

The rich tones of Dave Webber and Anni Fentiman will be heard on September 27 and all the way from Australia, Cloudstreet will be at the club on October 25.

The folk club meets on the second and last Thursday of the month.

Later in the year there will be a special concert at The Bowling Green, in Shaw Lane, Stoke Prior - the home of Bromsgrove Folk Festival.

Fairfield and Friends Folk Festival Field Refurbishment Fund Concert will bring in some extra revenue for the hosts to assist in some of the expenses of clearing up after the event.
