BUSINESSES in Aston Fields, from beauty salons to dentists, are taking part in a village scavenger hunt, organised by community group 'Bromsgrove ROCKS!'.

The Facebook group, which sees children decorating rocks and hiding them in public places, has attracted more than 1,600 members since it launched in November.

Business owners are now joining in on the action by signing up to Aston Fields Rock Hunt, which started on Monday.

Founder of Bromsgrove ROCKS! Jayne Taylor said: "I live in Aston Fields so I thought, how can I use this group to attract more people to the area?

"Then I came up with idea of painting personalised rocks representing all of the great businesses we have in Aston Fields, and creating a sort of treasure hunt to draw people's attention to local shops."

To take part, children need only print off an activity sheet from the Bromsgrove ROCKS! Facebook page, featuring photos of the hidden rocks, and tick them off when they spot them in shop windows, counters or public buildings.

Designs include a pile of coffee cups, stained glass window, bacon and eggs, and a tooth.

Jayne added: "Not only is it fun for children, but it gives adults the chance to take a look at what's on offer in Aston Fields."

Amanda Bond, senior stylist at Total Image beauty salon in Stoke Road, said: "I've got children myself so I think the rock hunt is a great idea.

"A lot of people drive through Aston Fields but don't actually take in all the businesses we've got here.

"This is a good way to get people from other areas of Bromsgrove to come and shop in Aston Fields."
