A KNIFE was confiscated by police at a Bromsgrove high school, after a 15-year-old student carried it onto the premises in his school bag.

Police were called to an 'incident' at North Bromsgrove High School this morning (Thursday, May 17), following reports that a pupil had brought a knife onto the school grounds.

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "We have seized the knife and a 15-year-old boy has now been referred to the local Youth Offending Team.

"We take all reports of knife crime very seriously and urge anyone who believes that they know someone is carrying a knife or other bladed weapon to report it to police by calling 999."

A statement on the school website reads: "You may be aware that the police attended the school regarding an out of school event on the morning of May 17.

"The school received information that a student due to arrive at school may have brought a banned item into school in their school bag.

"School staff were present for when the student arrived and a banned item was voluntarily handed over to the police.

"Please also be assured that immediate action by both the school and the police has been taken against the student.

"The school’s behaviour policy is very clear about banned items, and as such, any dangerous items will not be tolerated.”
