SKYDIVING school staff in Hagley have raised not only a huge amount for a mental health charity – but also awareness of the issue among their students.
Haybridge High School PE teacher Jonathan Martin and pastoral support coordinator Julie Rudd leapt from a plane more than 15,000ft above Morecambe Bay last weekend.
Their daredevil exploits have already raised more than £1,300 for the Mental Health Foundation, smashing their original target of £1,000.
The jump took place at the Black Nights Parachute Centre in Lancaster, affording the pair amazing views out to sea on one side and over to the Lake District on the other.
A school statement said: “The biggest priority of this jump was to raise the profile of talking about mental wellbeing at Haybridge, and in the wider community.
“They are seeing signs of this working already, with the work of the staff and student Mental Health Action Group gradually seeing more pupils happy to talk things through.”
