A POPULAR ‘Old Bromsgrovian’ and former governor and vice-president of Bromsgrove School has died at the age of 88.

John Baron passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 26, and a funeral celebrating his life was held at St James’ Church in Barton under Needwood on Monday.

A spokesman for the school said: “At school, John was a prolific sportsman being part of the 1st XV, cross-country and shooting, and captain of both the athletics and swimming teams.

“John became an Endowment Trustee of Bromsgrove in the late 1960s and was on the board of governors.

“Upon his retirement from the board, John was made a vice-president of the school.

“He regularly attended school events, and took pride in his involvement in the annual Commemoration Day celebrations.

“We offer our condolences to his wife Jill and the family.”
