CONTROVERSIAL plans to build retirement apartments on the former Bromsgrove Fire Station and library were set to be discussed tonight - but have been abandoned.

The proposal was supposed to be heard by members of the district council's planning committee tonight.

However, a spokesman from the council said that the applicant needs to resolve an outstanding matter with a consultee.

They said once that is completed then the application will be heard at a forthcoming planning meeting.

Developers McCarthy and Stone originally submitted plans for 49 retirement apartments on the Windsor Street site in December 2015, but they were turned down by Bromsgrove District Council on grounds of access, car parking and design.

Many residents have since expressed a number of concerns saying the homes are not what the town centre needs.
