POLICE are asking for dashcam footage following a collision which killed a woman on the M5 this morning

It happened at around 5.40am on the northbound carriageway between junctions 4 and 4a and involved a Peugeot and a Land Rover 4x4.

Police and emergency services attended but sadly a woman - believed to be in her 20s - was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Her next of kin has been informed.

Formal identification is yet to take place and a file will be prepared for the coroner in due course.

Two men were assessed by paramedics but discharged at the scene.

The carriageway has fully reopened but tailbacks are likely to continue for the next few hours.

Chief Superintendent Tom Harding said: "As the public would expect in such tragic cases, a thorough investigation has been launched to establish the circumstances behind the collision and our thoughts are with the families involved at this difficult time.

"Enquiries are currently ongoing and we would encourage anyone who saw the collision or has dashcam footage of the moments leading up to it to come forward.

"Although the road is now reopened, traffic may be affected for the next few hours or so and we would advise motorists to avoid the area.

"We would like to thank everyone, especially the local community for their support and understanding today while we carried out our initial investigations this morning.

"We do appreciate the significant impact such road closures have on local people and businesses.

"We have worked hard with key partners to ensure the length of time the road was closed was kept to a minimum and that we released as much information as possible, as quickly as possible, to keep people informed."

Anyone with information about the collision is being asked to call 101 quoting incident 40S of 3 April.
