SHOP workers are cycling a six-man bike dubbed “The Beast” for 52 miles along the coast.

The daring team, from Chandlers Building Supplies in Brighton, is taking on the first leg of the Seven Port Challenge on Thursday, May 2.

The workers will cycle from the i360 on Brighton seafront, past Shoreham Port to Portsmouth Harbour, a gruelling 52-mile ride along the Sussex and Hampshire coastline.

Brian Smith, one of the intrepid riders from Chandlers, said his team had spent hours mastering ‘The Beast’ but still had a long way to go.

He said: “We’ll have to put in a lot of practice on the tandem before May 2. It’s a very tricky bike to master and it is quite heavy too.”

“The guys are all up for it and have committed to hours of practice to master The Beast. Let’s hope that our six pairs of legs are up to the challenge.”
