THE destiny of the title Worcester Raiders thought they had won is set to be decided at Wembley – but not on the pitch.

A West Midlands (Regional) League (WMRL) representative confirmed Darlaston Town (1874) had appealed the call that saw Raiders awarded three points from an abandoned match at Bustleholme.

While the case did not directly involve Darlo, the call led to them being overtaken at the WMRL Division One summit by one point after the end of the season.

Now the Football Association (FA) must adjudicate as to whether its Standard Code of Rules – uniform regulations that apply to clubs in each league at that level – has been applied by the league in allowing the result to stand, casting fresh doubt over the championship.

It has yet to be estbalished when any hearing will take place ahead of WMRL's presentation night eight days from now (Saturday, June 1) or the annual general meeting at which next season's divisions are usually ratified.

Raiders had led Bustleholme 3-1 in the second minute of added time on March 19 when a brawl broke out involving players and staff of both clubs and members of the crowd.

Referee Pete Durnall called a premature halt and the result was temporarily scrubbed.

As it panned out, Raiders needed the three points they had been on course to earn to top Darlo in the chase for the crown and what should have been a single promotion place.

An FA Disciplinary Commission found charges of failure to control players, staff or spectators proven against both clubs as well as a separate charge against Bustleholme manager Scott Holden.

The WMRL then charged both clubs but when officials met on Monday, May 13, the result at the time of the abandonment was rubber stamped with both clubs warned as to their future conduct.

A statement released by Darlo three days later claimed WMRL’s management committee had "unanimously agreed that the punishment imposed on both clubs (by the FA) was sufficient and did not warrant any further sanction".

Rule 20 E of the standard code, which are FA rules that get enforced by the relevant league, states “the management committee shall rule that neither team will be awarded any points for that competition match and it shall not be replayed” for fixtures abandoned “owing to the conduct of both teams or their club member(s)”.

In an added twist, the FA then broke its own rules by promoting Raiders and Darlo with both turning up in the provisional WMRL Premier Division line-up for 2019-20 released on Sunday.

The appeal adds further fuel to another unresolved issue, the investigation into allegations and counter claims of racism and violence made in the aftermath of the 1-1 draw between Raiders and Darlo at Claines Lane in February.

The WMRL representative confirmed Darlaston had appealed but declined to comment further, stating it would not be appropriate ahead of the FA hearing.

Raiders chairman Kevin Jenkins and Darlo chief Neil Chambers were not available for comment.
