PERSHORE Town's appeal to move to the Hellenic League has been submitted.

Chairman Paul Loader confirmed the West Midlands (Regional) League Premier outfit's request with the Football Association (FA) still considering ways to make up the numbers in the Hellenic's two divisions at the same level.

It is an area of the country that has long-standing problem with just 14 clubs covering five counties – Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and Oxfordshire – set to fill Hellenic Division One (West).

Malvern Town, Hereford Lads Club, Wellington and Pegasus Juniors have already been shifted south to get that far in a league the FA wants to run with at least 16 clubs.

Step forward Pershore.

“We have lodged the appeal which has been acknowledged but we know nothing more at this stage," said Loader.

“The geography works better for us, we would have more derbies and more supporters at home and away games. We looked the mileage as well, it is far less.

"We have listed those reasons as to why it would benefit the club so now we just have to wait."

Despite the wish to shift, Les Jones has wasted no time in putting together his squad as Town look to seize the opportunity of four promotion places from all leagues at their level as part of an FA shake-up.

Ex-Worcester City trio Joe Bates, James Baldwin and Matt Gwynne have committed along with Malvern Town defender Dan Noke.

Set to return to King George V Playing Fields are dual-registered poacher Nick Seabourne, captain Joel Hobbs, Toby Wilcox, Sam Clarke, Ben Lane, Jordan Hayward, Joe Endacott, Matt Pinder and Curtis Townley.

“Whichever league we end up in, our aim is to push for promotion. Les and his team are putting together a squad to reflect that ambition," added Loader.

“It was always the plan to push this season having finished the last with a bit of stability. At the time we decided that we did not know about the extra places.

“It is an incentive now, knowing that we can go up if we finish third or fourth.

“We are looking forward to the new season. Hopefully we will be successful with the appeal but if not, we will carry on in the West Midlands (Regional) League and do out best in that."
