DEMOLITION work has started at the former Hare and Hounds pub in Menston.

The pub which has been landmark in the village for many years is making way for a new apartment complex for elderly people with care needs.

In September last year Bradford Council approved plans to demolish the Hare and Hounds family pub and Wacky Warehouse in Menston and replace it with a four-storey building containing 71 one, two and three-bed apartments with on-site care.

The application was made by Congleton-based company Adlington. There had been eight objections to the scheme, criticising the parking provision and the height of the building, and Menston Parish Council had also raised concerns.

The company, which runs a similar home in Otley, believe the development will allow older people in the area with care needs to move from their larger homes to more suitable accommodation.
