PLANS have been put forward for a huge housing estate on the edge of Bromsgrove.

Almost 1,000 homes could be built near Bordesley Abbey and Forge Mill in Redditch - in an 'Historic Environment Character Zone' which is reported as having a high potential for unknown archaeology.

The development lies partly within the Bromsgrove district and partly within Redditch.

The hybrid planning application, on behalf of housing giant Persimmon, is for up to 960 homes consisting of a full application for 128 dwellings accessed off Weights Lane.

It includes new public open space, drainage system, engineering operations and associated works.

It includes an outline application for the construction of the remaining dwellings with access points off Cookridge Close, Hawling Street and Weights Lane and a new district centre, new play facilities, new highway network, public open space, new drainage system and surface water attenuation, engineering operations and all associated works including landscaping.

30 per cent of the new homes would be affordable housing.

The application admits that waste, noise and dust is expected during construction but this is "unlikely to be significant".

The plans have been submitted to Bromsgrove Council and Redditch Council
