THERE are growing calls for police to patrol Sanders Park after weeks of anti-social behaviour and gang related attacks.

The move comes after a victim of a recent attack in the park spoke out, condemning those responsible and saying he is now scared to leave his house.

There have been several incidents involving large gangs of youths terrorising people in the park.

The Advertiser reported that a gang of hooded louts terrorised park-goers, beating up one man to steal his mobile phone and threatening several others in a shocking spree last week.

Police confirmed they had received reports of a group of men trying to steal people's phones before the assault on the man which happened last Wednesday just after 7pm.

A woman who saw a group intimidating people in the park told the Advertiser that the gang numbered between 15 and 20 and all had their faces covered.

Other incidents include gangs threatening people and offering drugs to young girls.

The victim of the attack, who wanted to remain anonymous, said he is now scared to leave the house and refuses to go out unless he is with someone.

"The attack has mentally scarred me and it physically hurts," he admitted.

"When I was getting attacked there were people walking past but they didn't stop to help or even call the police.

"I have been put off going out alone now. I refuse to leave the house on my own unless I'm with someone."

A number of people on social media are now calling for the park to be regularly patrolled by police to prevent any further incidents.
