THE crossing on Kidderminster Road, leading to the entrance of Sanders Park in Bromsgrove, is set to revamped as part of a multi-million pound deal.

The crossing will be upgraded to a toucan crossing – a crossing that is suitable for cyclists, pedestrians and mobility scooters.

Upgrades will also take place on the approach to the crossing on both sides of the road with shared use footways for pedestrians and cyclists being newly installed.

The works are part of Worcestershire County Council’s scheme to improve walking and cycling routes across the town.

Councillor Ken Pollock, Worcestershire County Council's cabinet member with responsibility for economy and infrastructure, said: "We’re committed to ensuring that we reduce congestion in and around Bromsgrove and making improvements to walking and cycling routes is a huge part of this commitment.

“Work to improve access in Sanders Park is already well underway and providing better links to it from Kidderminster Road is a very important part of this work.”

Work will also take place to improve Sanders Park car park access, by removing the pillar and widening the entrance.

It is due to start the week beginning September 23 and will be complete later this year.

Most of the works will be carried out under temporary traffic signals and towards the end of the scheme, a night-time closure will be needed for resurfacing.

BT will be onsite, before main works start to carry out some preparatory works.

The works on Kidderminster Road add to improvements already progressing well at Sanders Park and work recently completed at Pig Alley.

Work is also set to take place later this year on Hanover Street.

The programme of works is funded via the Department for Transport’s (DfT) National Productivity Investment Fund of which £3.4 million was granted to the county to reduce congestion and improve walking and cycling routes in Bromsgrove.
