A KINGSWINFORD man dodged jail after being found with a knife in a car park.

Daniel Elgerton, aged 23, of Blenheim Road, Kingswinford, pleaded guilty at Dudley Magistrates Court to possessing a knife without good reason or lawful authority in a car park. He also admitted driving without insurance and a licence and possessing cannabis. He received a 20 week prison sentence suspended for 12 months and was ordered to carry out 40 hours of unpaid work over the next 12 months. The court also ordered him to pay a 390 surcharge and £185 costs.

The following cases were also heard at Dudley Magistrates Court last week.

Ross Sheriff, aged 30, of Church Street, Stourbridge, pleaded guilty to driving over the legal alcohol limit on Bath Street, Dudley. He was fined £120 and ordered to pay a £32 surcharge and £135 costs. He was also disqualified from holding a driving licence for 22 months.

Liam Williams, aged 24, of High Street, Kingswinford, pleaded guilty to assaulting Tania Williams by beating. He received a community order and must carry out 120 hours of unpaid work over the next 12 months. He was also ordered to pay a surcharge and costs totalling £390.

Neil Witton, aged 38, of HMP Oakwood, Featherstone, pleaded guilty to assaulting Debbie Broome by beating. He was jailed for 20 weeks due to an extensive record of previous offences. He received a restraining order and was also ordered to pay a £122 surcharge.

Christopher Potter, aged 30, of Sandham Road, Lye, pleaded guilty to driving over the legal alcohol limit and driving without insurance. He was fined £420 and also ordered to pay a £42 surcharge and £135 costs. He was also disqualified from holding a driving licence for 12 months.

Glen Yates, aged 41, of Park Street, Lye, pleaded guilty to two counts of trespassing into two buildings in Netherton with the intent to steal. He received a community order and was ordered to pay compensation and a surcharge totalling £290.
