POLICE were called to reports of a suspected gunshot in Cradley last night - after a car crash which saw one vehicle plough into a bus-stop.

A 999 caller reported a car crash in Clent View Road - and said they had heard a gunshot.

The incident happened at around 11.25pm yesterday (Friday) with the drivers of both vehicles fleeing the scene.

Officers said they have searched the scene after the van and Land Rover Discovery crashed and have not found any evidence of a firearm being discharged.

Local residents reported that the force helicopter was out searching the area and part of Clent View Road was closed off. 

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "Police received a call at 11.25pm last night (11 Oct) reporting a two vehicle collision in Clent View Road, Cradley, in which one vehicle hit a bus-stop.

"It’s understood the occupants of both vehicles fled the scene; the vehicles have been recovered by police.

"The initial 999 caller also reported hearing what they believed to be a gunshot.

"Police have searched the scene and there is no damage consistent with a firearms discharge and no evidence at the scene to corroborate the account at this stage."
