As well as attracting hundreds of runners to take part the Evesham Town 10k race also raised money and awareness for a local charity Wallace House Community Centre.

The organisers from Evesham Vale Running Club were pleased to handover a cheque for £5000 on Monday evening.

Centre manager, Fiona Bolton had this to say: “We'd just like to thank you for your support. Wallace House Community Centre has been at the heart of the community since the 1960s and is home to a diverse range of groups including children and young people, families, the elderly, vulnerable groups supporting those with disabilities, educational groups, sports, dance and many, many more. As a registered charity we have to compete for grants like so many others and rely on fundraising to deliver a lot of our activities."

"Your amazing donation will be earmarked to increase the use of the main area. In the past it's been a community space where local groups and individuals could get together and socialise but lack of facilities and funds has seen a decline. It will be wonderful to put this generous donation towards refurbishing the social space to make it more accessible to everyone. We don't need exciting, glamorous and hi-tech but we do love to be friendly, warm and welcoming!”

Next year’s race will take place on 5th July and the planning is already well underway. Once again the organisers are looking for a local charity to be supported and are encouraging people to nominate a worthy cause with details of how the funds will be used.

They are also looking for sponsors to help support the event and are offering a range of sponsorship packages including the coveted ‘headline’ spot. The main sponsor for 2019 was Purr Home Services who enjoyed seeing their name on all the race numbers, souvenir bags, posters, banners and flyers.

Please contact eveshamvalerunningclub@gmail.com by November 25th if you’d like to get involved as a charity or sponsor.

Entries for the 2020 event will open at the beginning of December. Runners can start their training for the race by joining Evesham Vale Running Club who have regular sessions for all abilities. Visit eveshamvalerunningclub.org.uk for more details.
