A 25-YEAR-OLD man has pleaded guilty to causing the death of a Bradford motorcyclist by careless driving following a hit-and-run crash last year.

Members of victim John Naylor’s family were allowed to sit in the jury box today during a hearing before Judge Jonathan Rose at Bradford Crown Court as Conor Stott-Webster admitted the charge which relates to a collision between a Ford Focus and Mr Naylor’s Yamaha on the night of October 3, 2018.

Stott-Webster, of Springhead Road, Bradford, also pleaded guilty to related charges of driving the Ford Focus dangerously on Cottingley Road, Allerton, following the fatal collision, driving while uninsured and otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

It was reported at the time of the collision that the Ford Focus had subsequently struck a VW Polo before being abandoned in Meadow Court.

Mr Naylor, 30, was thought to have been on his way home from work when he was fatally injured.

Stott-Webster’s solicitor advocate Safter Salam made an application for a pre-sentence report on his client and prosecutor Stephen Wood said time was required to provide updated victim impact statements.

Judge Rose fixed Stott-Webster’s sentence hearing for Wednesday, December 18, before the Recorder of Bradford Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC, but he warned the defendant that the adjournment on bail for a report was no indication of the sentence.

“He will very much have in mind a custodial sentence, a prison sentence, for these offences do you understand that?” said the judge.

“Yes,” replied Scott-Webster, who will now be subject to an interim driving disqualification.

Before Mr Naylor’s family members left the court Judge Rose offered them his condolences.
