A COMMUNITY group in Rubery that works with youngsters, giving them something to do instead of hanging around on the street, has been given a cash boost.
Rubery Judo Club, based in Rubery Social Club, not only teaches young people self-defence, discipline and the value of hard work, but also gives them a place to go instead of getting into trouble.
The club recently received £800 from councillor Peter McDonald.
Cllr McDonald said: “I was only too pleased to be able to give £800 to the club from my divisional funds.
"They are one of the few places left young people can still go to and need all the help and support they can get."
He added: "Judo is one of the world’s most widely practised Olympic and Paralympics sports and people like Denis and his team do a great job in maintaining the club and help young people not only to learn the art of judo but go on to represent the club in tournaments."
