MORE than 300 movie lovers attended the exclusive launch of Cineworld in Warrington.

The cinema opened its doors in Time Square for the first time for a VIP gala on Tuesday evening before opening to the public today, Wednesday.

Those invited were among the first to look inside and were treated to a preview screening of Jumanji: The Next Level in the cutting edge Superscreen room after an introduction from Warrington general manager Sonia Trayford, pictured below.

Warrington Guardian:

The cinema features more than 2,400 seats across 13 screens and the flagship 16.2m by 8.9m Superscreen uses the latest in high definition laser projection and multi-dimensional sound with 32 speakers in the walls and ceilings.

Cineworld Warrington, which also features a Starbucks coffee shop, is the second business to open in the £142.5million Time Square leisure development after The Botanist.

Warrington Guardian:

SO WHAT IS THE SUPERSCREEN REALLY LIKE?

NOTHING quite prepares you for the scale of Cineworld Warrington’s Superscreen – it is gigantic.

With a height of 8.9m and width of 16.2m, the high definition laser projection screen fills the wall from corner to corner and Time Square is the chain’s first cinema to feature it.

Although a part of us might miss the Buttermarket Street Odeon’s theatre-style curtain and art deco touches that now firmly belong to a former era, it is great to see the town now leading in cinema technology.

Sure, Warrington’s Superscreen is not as big as IMAX screens but there are probably more pros than there are cons to that.

IMAX rooms tend to be cavernous by their very nature whereas this felt like a normal auditorium albeit with an extraordinary screen.

That comfortable and conventional cinema setting with 375 seats was a big plus for me.

Warrington Guardian:

Superscreen’s tagline is ‘where movies feel like masterpieces’ and that is achieved in a range of simple and sophisticated ways.

Firstly the view is superb due to the fairly steep incline of the rows of seats meaning no one’s head is going to get in your way.

The picture quality speaks for itself and adds to the immersion in all the ways you might expect.

But it easy to picture how the Superscreen’s 32 Dolby Atmos multi-dimensional speakers in the walls and ceiling will set the cinema aside from the pack.

Imagine watching the new Star Wars while being able to pinpoint the sound of where something like a TIE Fighter is coming from.

Warrington Guardian:

The only niggle was Cineworld’s seats – all of them recline but only slightly. It is hardly a major criticism as until recently cinema-goers have always made do with regular seats but they may fare unfavourably if people compare them against the luxury upgrades at Odeon in Westbrook.

But all in all, Superscreen is a fantastic addition to our first town centre cinema in 25 years which should not be taken for granted.
