RESIDENTS are being encouraged to take part in some noisy fun at a wassail at the Lickey Hills Country Park.

The event, this Saturday, January 11 from 4.30pm, is open to everyone and is being organised by the ranger team in the country park.

A spokesman said: "The Wassail is a centuries old rural tradition where we make merry and endeavour to ensure a good and bountiful harvest in the Community Orchard.

"Those attending need to wear warm clothing and wellies, and bring anything to make a noise to frighten off any evil spirits. And also bring a sense of humour.

"They also need to bring a torch and some apple based liquid to drink the health of the fruit trees.

"There will be warm apple juice available free on the day but we are encouraging people to bring there own cups for this as we want to minimise waste."

Local group Step on Board, Appalachian dancers and musicians, will provide live music.
