1. Stars come out for filming of The Crown in Winchester city centre

Actors including Helena Bonham Carter were spotted in Winchester as a popular Netflix series was filmed at the cathedral. 

Crews for The Crown set up in the city on Monday and were shooting two scenes – the funeral of Lord Mountbatten and Charles and Diana's wedding.

2. The future remains unclear for a popular city shop

Primark, in The Brooks, has begun talks with the centre’s landlord over the future of its shop in the city.

In a statement, the company said: “Primark’s existing lease expires at Brooks shopping centre in Winchester in early 2021."

3. Dad jailed again just one day after being released from prison

Aston Hannis was jailed for refusing to aid a murder investigation into the death of a man shot twice in the head with a shotgun, is again behind bars - for smuggling a mobile into prison.

Sentenced just a day after his release from HMP Winchester, the 28-year-old pleaded guilty to the charge.

4. Rapist who preyed on vulnerable woman gets 13-year sentence

Liam Foard, 31, already a convicted rapist, was branded a danger to the public by a judge.

The court heard that on July 23 last year he had enticed a woman with learning difficulties out of her home at night and assaulted her.

5. Family pays tribute to 81-year-old who died following a collision 

Robert George Soper, of Bereweeke Road, died following a crash between himself, a Peugeot 807 and Land Rover Discovery on January 10.

The family said: "He was a quiet, contented man with a warm heart that was full of mischief. He is much missed by his family and friends.”
