‘DANCING Chris’ has been jailed after entering the town centre only days after he was banned from doing so by a court order.

The 64-year-old, whose full name is Christopher Berry, was handed a criminal behaviour order at Warrington Magistrates Court on Friday, January 17.

This order prevented him from entering Warrington town centre for a period of four years.

But Berry, of Lovely Lane in Whitecross, was arrested by police on Saturday after he was discovered by officers on Winmarleigh Street.

He was brought back before the same court today, Monday, where he was handed a 12-week jail sentence after admitted breaching a criminal behaviour order.

Gaining his nickname in the late-2000s when he would regularly be spotted performing dances along Chester Road, Dancing Chris was originally handed the order after a spate of brushes with the law in the past year.

Since June last year, these included fighting, threats of violence, drunk and disorderly behaviour and public urination.

Officers stated in court that Berry has been a ‘drain on the force’s resources’.

The order does allow him to enter the town centre if he is visiting the National Probation Service on Friars Gate, his solicitors, Pathways to Recovery on Bold Street, Warrington Police Station and Warrington Magistrates Court.
