A MAN has been charged after a police officer was dragged 70 yards down a quiet street in Wythall.

A Birmingham man has been charged with attempted grievous bodily harm, dangerous driving and having no insurance, following the incident on Three Oaks Road on Tuesday, January 28.

Khazeer Ali, 27, of Russell Road, Hall Green, Birmingham appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, January 31 and was remanded in custody.

He will be appearing at Worcester Crown Court on March 2.

Three other men from Solihull were arrested as part of the investigation.

An 18-year-old was arrested on suspicion of assault.

A 20-year-old was arrested on suspicion of assault and failing to stop when directed.

A 22-year-old was arrested on suspicion of assault, failing to stop, dangerous driving and attempted theft of a vehicle.

These three men have been released under police investigation.

PCC John Campion called the incident "horrific" and said his thoughts and prayers are with the officer and their family.

Mr Campion said: “It is a reminder to the community of the danger officers face whilst supporting and protecting the communities they serve.

"This incident will have a far reaching effect; not only on the officer concerned, also their colleagues, friends and family. I am reassured that the force is doing all it can to support the officer after this incident."
