Report submitted by Redditch and South Warwickshire Combination League

In our Saturday night fixture, Redditch United Cross hosted SSS Lions in a Walls & Ceilings Division 1 fixture. It was SSS Lions who started the better team and lead at the break 1-0. They soon stepped it up in the second half, eventually winning 7-0 with a brace from Ben Ellicot and Marc Jovanovic and goals from Rob Ager, Nick Briggs and Eliot Macvie.

On Sunday morning, Redditch United Cross and SSS Lions were back in action again, this time facing different teams. Redditch Cross took on Redditch Town in a league fixture and despite only being able to field 10 men, gave it their all for 90 minutes. Redditch Town dominated the game and won the game 12-0, with Dan Gaffney helping them on their way with 7 goals. SSS Lions took on Beoley Village in the Terry Cup Quarter final, making use of the 3G pitch at Woodfield in a 1:30pm kick off. SSS Lions we’re on form again, leading 2-0 at half time. Despite Beoley Village’s best efforts to get back in the game early in the second half, SSS Lions killed off the game with a fast flurry of goals and won the game 7-1.

Feckenham Sunday took on Studley Lions in what was supposed to be a ‘double header’ in the league but due to the pitch conditions they only managed to play one game. Feckenham continued their unbeaten start in the league, making 8 out of 8 wins so far and put 4 past Studley Lions with the game ending 4-1. Goals from Connor Perry Holmes, Robbie Davies, Ryan Young and Jamie Walsh helped secure the win for Feckenham.

The final league game was between South Redditch and Redditch Borough. After last weeks victory in the WFA Sunday Premier Cup, Redditch Borough were looking to build on momentum and delivered with an emphatic 7-0 win. Will Skelton, the league’s top goal scored grabbed himself 4 goals, George Skelton grabbed himself a brace and George Morris finished off the scoreline to take them up to 5th in the league.

In the Jim Fleeman Cup, Astwood FC took on Frankley United, with the home team playing their first game in 2 months! It turns out the 2 month wait didn’t do Astwood any harm as they fired themselves into the Semi-final of the Jim Fleeman Cup after beating Frankley United 5-0. A brace from Matt Armond and goals from Josh Bowen, Charlie Stretch and Craig Jenkins helped Astwood secure their place in the next round. Another team playing in the Jim Fleeman Cup was AFC Windmill after a 9 goal thriller. AFC Windmill dominated the game and were rewarded for their hard work and are one step closer to the Final.

In the WFA Sunday Premier Cup, CBH Fasteners FC join Redditch Borough in the Semi-Final where they are scheduled to play each other on the 29th March. This week, CBH beat last years cup winners Chaddesley Ravens after equalising late on from a Dan Jones goal. With no extra time, the game went straight to penalties where CBH won 5-4.
