STAYING inside to slow the spread of coronavirus is the right thing to do, but it can be difficult if you haven't got a way to spend your time.

The Bolton News has collated a list of hit TV shows worth binge-watching, that have all had scenes filmed in the borough.

Years and Years is a political drama produced by the BBC.

The futuristic series, written by Russell T. Davies of Doctor Who, follows a Manchester family from post-Brexit to 2034 and explores how they cope under a right-wing government.

Starring Dame Emma Thompson, Russell Tovey, and Anne Reid, the six-part series follows the Lyons family for 15 years.

Odessa Cafe on Exchange Scene was closed for an afternoon last March so that scenes could be shot there.

Netflix’s thriller, The Stranger starring Richard Armitage, was filmed across parts of Bolton, Bury and Manchester last year.

Armitage plays Adam Price, the series’ protagonist who finds himself tangled in a mysterious web of deception.

His steady life, two wonderful sons and watertight marriage all seem unassailable – until The Stranger reveals a shocking secret about his wife.

The series is based on the Harlan Coben novel of the same name.

All episodes are available to stream on Netflix now.

Detective thriller series Bancroft features the town hall and Le Mans Crescent in its opening scenes.

Sarah Parish stars as DCI Elizabeth Bancroft, a ruthless officer with links to an unresolved missing persons case.

Previously, the producer of the first series said he deliberately chose Bolton because of its crescent, town hall and civic centre architecture which created a Paris/ New York feel.

Two seasons are available of the hit ITV drama, and can be watched on BritBox or purchased on Amazon Prime.

Peaky Blinders, a period crime drama set in Birmingham, has also featured Bolton in episodes.

Hollywood stars Cillian Murphy and Tom Hardy star in the show, following the Shelby crime family in the aftermath of the First World War.

The show, which first aired in 2013, has five seasons available to watch on Netflix.

Last Tango in Halifax, another BBC hit, has used a variety of locations across the borough.

Crews were spotted filming at Bolton School, Le Mans Crescent, and Tiffany's in the Square.

Following the lives of two childhood sweethearts reunited after 60 years, the series has attracted mostly positive reviews, scoring highly from critics on rating website Rotten Tomatoes.

All 24 episodes are available free on BBC iPlayer.

Get Even, a young people's mystery drama, was also filmed at Bolton School.

The series follows four teenage girls, Kitty, Margot, Bree and Olivia, who at face value seem to have nothing in common.

However the girls are united by a common passion to expose injustice at their elite but corrupt private school, Bannerman.

An unexpected twist causes trouble for the group, with over one million people streaming the series to find out what happens to them.
