THE number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Worcestershire has surpassed 400.

There were 419 people confirmed as having the covid-19 virus in the county as of Tuesday, April 7.

Figures released daily by Public Health England suggest another 25 people had been confirmed as having coronavirus in the previous 24 hours.

As of Tuesday, there were 55,242 confirmed cases of the virus across the UK. Of these, 6,159 people had died.

Birmingham remained at the top of the Government list of local authorities for cases confirmed, with 1,372.

In neighbouring areas, Warwickshire had a total of 400 confirmed cases and Dudley 309.

Speaking at the daily Downing Street briefing, Sir Patrick Vallance said it was "possible that we're beginning to see the curve flattening".

However, he said it would be another week or so before he could say for sure.
