Primark has confirmed its new store, in the old BHS building in the High Street, has been delayed but will open later this year.

It had been due to open this summer after a move from the Royals Shopping Centre was confirmed last year, but fit-out work was halted as the country fell into lockdown in March.

Bosses say work will be resumed as soon as new measures are put in place.

A spokesman for Primark said: “Primark can confirm that its Southend store will be relocated to a site nearby in town at 36-44 High Street, Southend.

“The new store, which will open later this year, will offer more retail space with a broader product range and will feature a contemporary shop fit.

“Further details, including opening date, will be shared in due course.”
