An ANIMAL charity based in Hethersgill is hoping to host a dog show in the summer - depending on the lockdown guidelines.

The Penny Jones Animal Hospice is planning a dog show in August that will raise funds to support the beloved charity.

There will be 18 classes during the day including waggiest tail, the dog that the judge would most like to take home, best trick, and dogs with a disability.

As with many charities, fundraising opportunities for the hospice - which cares for lots of animals - have decreased since the outbreak.

Elizabeth Mcdonagh, proprietor of the charity, said: “It remains incredibly difficult to raise enough money each and every month to balance our outgoings and we are frequently not achieving it.

“We are becoming desperate for donations to keep the charity running and the animals safe.”

Penny Jones Animal Hospice takes in animals of all shapes and sizes to give them a caring and loving home. Many have been abused and neglected.

This would be one of the first in-person fundraising opportunities that the charity had been able to do in months.

If it goes ahead, it will be held on August 9 in Hethersgill Hall from 12.30pm.
